We are in a real emergency. Two million people in Gaza – half of them children – are struggling to survive under Israel’s relentless bombardment. They are being displaced into ever smaller areas, without adequate access to food, clean water, shelter, or medical care.
For the past two years, our team has been flooded with desperate requests for assistance from Gaza residents. With Israel's intensified attacks in the north, the situation is deteriorating rapidly.
Civilians must be protected. Gaza must have access – now.
Over 60,000 have been killed, including more than 18,000 children. Israel has destroyed local food production, rendering the population completely dependent on entry of aid, which itself is severely restricted and at times has been blocked completely. Homes, schools, universities, critical civilian infrastructure and healthcare facilities lay in ruins.
For 20 years, Gisha has had its eyes on Gaza. Despite the catastrophic situation, through our legal aid we continue to reunite families, support people to return to their homes, and help people reach life-saving medical care. Our petitions to Israel's High Court have demanded that the state take responsibility for its obligations to residents of Gaza under Israeli and international law, including by ensuring unfettered access to aid. Our research and advocacy keep people informed and press governments to take action to ensure access and freedom of movement.
Our work exposes the reality the state tries to hide: Israel’s use of humanitarian aid as a weapon of war, its mass forced displacement of the population, and systematic destruction of the Strip.
