About the Campaign
We, the family and friends of Adam Bismut, who fell in the Iron Shield War in the Buildings Disaster, seek to commemorate his memory and legacy.
Adam Bismut grew up in ‘Ginot Shomron’, he loved the local nature that surrounded him and spent days and nights immersed in it. If there was a natural spring in the area, Adam would be the first to jump in, often with a drink in hand. One of his favorite places was "HaBe'er" - a natural well of water located beneath the scouts building that Adam was part of as a boy and later on a counselor.
In his youth, Adam initiated a large-scale project to clean up the well and its surrounding from vast amounts of waste, so that he, his friends, and the junior scouts could enjoy a piece of nature. Therefore, we believe that revitalizing the same project initiated by Adam and transforming the well back into a true gem of nature is the most fitting way to commemorate Adam's memory.
Adam believed in community life and partnership, living a sustainable lifestyle that promotes ecological conservation and the use of sustainable materials. We aim to turn the well into a heritage site in his memory, where many people can come and enjoy what nature has to offer, using facilities created with donations (tables, chairs, a bonfire pit, etc.), all from recyclable materials. Additionally, efforts will be made to integrate it into Israel's hiking trails.
More about Adam...
Adam was an adventures man with a charm that captivated anyone he had encountered. He was straightforward, a man of principles, peace, and justice. He had the ability to take charg of his life and navigate it according to his desires and beliefs. He didn't settle for doing things just because they were tradition or expected; he chose how to lead his adult life based on his values. Adam taught those around him to be better or perhaps, just being himself, inspired commitment to try.
Alongside his more serious aspects, his life was also full of humor and rich leisure activities. Just as he could offer advice or support someone in need, he also had a mischievous side that accompanied every conversation with him. Once a year, he and his friends would travel abroad at any cost, returning with unforgettable experiences and often a new tattoo.
Adam was involved in many activities. He was active in the scouts movement, served in the IDF in the ‘Givati’ Brigade, and later led a leadership program in the Bedouin community in the Negev, while earning first and second degrees at Ben-Gurion University. Subsequently, he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Business Administration, where he conducted entrepreneurship courses for undergraduate and graduate students. After his passing, the university decided to name one of the courses after him.
Entrepreneurship ran in his veins. He initiated and organized numerous social events, founded a new scout troop in the Negev, and started a startup called SightBit, which naturally included his values. For example, the company he founded focused on saving lives and preventing pollution, contamination, and infections in costs worldwide.
Adam loved nature and integrated it into family trips. Every family gathering, holiday, or any other event involved anything from cabins to camping or staying near any stream throughout the country. He cared deeply for family unity, ensuring everyone had their place to express themselves and bring out their best. He was the one who always organized activities, quizzes, brain teasers, or just storytelling sessions for his nephews. He knew when to give advice, be a listening ear, argue about politics, cook a special dish, and simply enjoy time with his siblings and extended family.
Adam believed in defending the land, serving with ethical and moral values in the military. For instance, he wrote in 2016, "I always tell the youth where I volunteer that we must avoid war as much as possible, but when war is inevitable, we must get under the stretcher and defend the State of Israel." During the war he insisted on adhering to orders and maintaining ethical standards, ensuring that he and his comrades acted only after careful consideration.
On October 7, Adam knew he had to enlist. During the chaos that ensued in the country, he headed to his base and joined the reserves. In the four and a half months since then, he fulfilled defense tasks in the ‘Otef-Gaza’ strip, even entering the Gaza Strip for various operations and mining actions. During this time, and with the help of his team, he established a small office in Kibbutz Magen from where he continued to manage SightBit, lecture at the university, and pursue his various activities. Despite the longing for home and the impact on his business, Adam found great importance in volunteering to bring back the abducted kids, citizens and soldiers, and bringing peace to the communities in the ‘Otef-Gaza’, the north, and the entire country.
Adam fell in the Ma'azi disaster, known as the 'Buildings Disaster,' along with four more of his team members and sixteen other soldiers, in an operation defending and protecting the country and its residents. During the operation, his team encountered buildings damaged by RPG fire.
Adam did not return from the war, leaving us only his legacy as a testament. A legacy that includes moral values, seriousness, inspiration to take action for our personal and collective future, as well as a dedication to living in the moment, the sense of togetherness, enjoyment, laughter. Sometimes even exaggeration and frenzy, as he used to say humorously, "Living the minute." Adam took life seriously and didn't make a big deal out of it.
