לפני כ- 20 שנה, הקימה גלילה אבן חן את עמותת "חברים לחיים". מאז ועד היום גלילה וצוות המתנדבים בעמותה (העמותה היא ללא מטרות רווח ונעשית בהתנדבות מלאה), מגדירים את מלאכת הצלת כלבים כמטרת חייהם ונרתמים למענם 24/7, ללא מנוחה. העמותה מצילה כלבים מהסגרים לפני המתה, מהרחוב ומאנשים מתעללים.
גלילה ומתנדבי העמותה מארגנים ימי אימוץ, כדי שהכלבים יזכו לבית חם ואוהב, מטפלים בכלבים ,מסיעים לטיפולים רפואיים ולימי אימוץ ,מוציאים מהסגרים ודואגים לכל צרכיהם, גם כשמדובר בכלב בן 15, שננטש על ידי משפחתו לעת זקנה.
לצערינו הרב, המדינה וגופים פרטיים אינם משתתפים במימון הפעילות של העמותה.
כמות האימוצים פחתה ב60% כאשר בעמותה יש למעלה מ300 כלבים שנמצאים תחת אחריותה.
לאחרונה רכב העמותה שבק חיים ואין רכב הסעות עבור הכלבים.
במרוצת השנים הצילה העמותה לא פחות מ30,000 (!!!) כלבים, וכל רצונה הוא להמשיך ולעשות זאת. בואו נעזור לה לעזור להם. אל תשארו אדישים.
