A 47-year-old single mother of an eight-year-old boy is battling metastatic colon cancer. She is the sole breadwinner and if she can’t work, she can’t pay rent or buy food. During the weeks that she undergoes chemotherapy treatment, she is unable to perform her physically demanding job. As a result, she borrows money from friends to pay her rent but this is an unreliable resource.

There usually is nothing left to buy food, so her son eats a portion of egg noodles per day. He is trying to help her to track her medical care by reading her paperwork in Hebrew (which is not her native tongue).

Her son is worried and hungry, and she needs funds to stabilize her situation until she can find employment that fits with her chemo schedule or until her situation improves. She and her son are at imminent risk of homelessness and hunger.

She needs around 5K NIS/month inclusive to not have to worry about rent and food.

I approached all of the nonprofit organizations in the area and none of them are able to provide this monetary support. Some provide social work and occasional boxes of food but it’s just not enough.

She is not the only case where giving money directly is the solution to the problem. She is strong and motivated to heal and work, but currently cannot and doesn\\\\\\'t have an adequate safety net. We are starting the South Tel Aviv Crisis Action Fund to support people with direct monetary support to solve short-term financial needs without which they face dire conditions. Not all problems can be solved with money but when we have the opportunity to help in this way, we will.
