Urgent Call for Donations: Evacuation and Assistance for People with Disabilities and Elderly Living Without Accessible shelters/safe rooms in Missile-Attacked Northern Cities
We Need Your Help!
Unfortunately, the end of the war in Israel is not in sight, with the conflict continuing to focus heavily on the northern region. Dozens of communities are subjected to daily and on-going missile attacks, and the potential for a regional war feels imminent.
The current situation is unbearably difficult for everyone, but it is especially dire for people with disabilities and the elderly in the north.
A staggering 36% of people with disabilities live under attack without access to emergency shelters, accessible protection, or the ability to reach a safe place during alarms and missile strikes. The government does not provide funding or assistance for evacuations for most residents up north. Many of these individuals lack the financial means or family support to leave, leaving them trapped at home, unprotected, and terrified with each alarm, praying that the missiles don’t strike them.
Access Israel, in consultation with local welfare departments, is stepping in where the government cannot. With the help of donations, we transport families (when needed in accessible vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts) to quieter areas of the country for several days or in specific cases when needed for longer periods of time.
Since October 7th , we have been running a project called "The Purple Vest," entirely focused on helping people with disabilities and the elderly during emergencies and war. As part of this project, we undertake a variety of life-saving activities, including locating and evacuating people with disabilities and the elderly from the danger zones mostly in the north and the south to protected and accessible locations. We also manage a special, accessible Emergency Operations Center that receives and responds to evacuation requests and other calls for help and support. Additionally, we provide professional training and prepare volunteers for assisting in the accessible rescue of people with disabilities during disasters, and we offer vital information to aid emergency preparedness for people with all types of disabilities.
Your donations, big or small, are critically needed to continue these life-saving activities. 100% of your contributions will directly aid those most in need. Thank you for your generous support during these challenging times.
