Every year, thousands of young men and women, both from across Israel, including many from at-risk backgrounds, and from around the world, make the life-changing decision to serve in the Israel Defense Forces as Lone Soldiers. They stand on the frontlines defending Israel, yet often face the challenges of military service without the safety net of nearby family.

Growing Wings was founded for Lone Soldiers, by Lone Soldiers. We understand the reality because we’ve lived it — the homesickness, the financial strain, the uncertainty of navigating military life alone. Our mission is to ensure that no Lone Soldier ever feels alone, from the day they decide to enlist until long after they hang up their uniform.

Through an umbrella of programs and partnerships, we provide a holistic support system that follows each soldier through every stage of their journey:

• Before Service: Guidance and preparatory resources to help soldiers navigate enlistment, prepare mentally and physically for service, and secure safe, reliable housing.
  
  
• During Service: Affordable, fully furnished homes; mental health and wellness support; community events; essential supplies; and assistance with personal needs as they arise.
  
  
• After Service: Career development, higher education guidance, networking opportunities, and transitional support to help soldiers successfully integrate into civilian life.

We bring together the best grassroots organizations in Israel under one network, ensuring that Lone Soldiers have access to housing, mental health care, legal aid, education, and employment opportunities, all coordinated through Growing Wings to ensure that no need goes unmet.

Since 2019, we have supported thousands of Lone Soldiers through direct aid, community-building, and life-changing collaborations. Every bed we provide, every meal we share, every holiday gathering we host is a reminder to these young men and women: you are not alone.
