Israel Microgreens & Leket Israel: Providing “Farm to Table” Microgreens to Families around Israel
About the Campaign:
The devastating physical and emotional impact of October 7th is now being felt economically too. Many businesses, large and small, have been turned upside down, some put on hold altogether while their owners, staff and customers have been on the front lines or are part of the tens of thousands of displaced families.
Israel Microgreens is one of those small businesses that was mothballed following the atrocities on Simchat Torah, with the owner, Reuven Marriott (ex London and Boca Raton) running to the front lines, putting his farm and family’s livelihood on hold as he sprung to the defence of our nation. He is now trying to get the business back up and running but faces continuing challenges.
As Reuven explains, “We are a young and entrepreneurial couple who are passionate about providing a premium, fresh, farm-to-table product packed full of health benefits to families throughout Israel (https://www.israelmicrogreens.com/).
With intermittent time off from my army duties and with some staff and volunteers, we have been able to restart the farming operations. However, in addition to three months of having no business, many of our hotel, wedding hall and restaurant customers are themselves not operating fully due to the ongoing fallout from the war. We spent three years building up the business prior to October 7th but have been knocked back 18 months to two years overnight.

In normal times, Leket Israel rescues 70,000,000 lbs. of fresh, surplus produce and cooked meat meals (that would otherwise be needlessly wasted) for redistribution to 234,000 Israelis in need each week, including Holocaust survivors, families living below the poverty line, struggling immigrants, at-risk youth, and other vulnerable populations. The food is distributed free of charge to Leket Israel’s 265 nonprofit partners. During the ongoing crisis, Leket Israel is currently providing critical emergency relief and focusing on: meals for homebound individuals and seniors, food and essential supplies for displaced families, financial support for evacuees, and assisting farmers in harvesting their crops.
