Since the beginning of the October War in Israel, our community at Kochav-Michael has joined thousands all over the land in relief activities for our soldiers and citizens. Kochav-Michael is a village located 14 km from the Gaza Strip border. Our entire community started to prepare high-quality meals for combat units, for soldiers who are staying for rest and refreshment at our village, and for other units in the area, all in a corporate effort to make them feel “home”. During the last weeks, we had the privilege to serve thousands of meals and bring a lot of joy to many of these soldiers.

Our kitchen is based on a catering company called “Mitbach-Sade” (meaning field-kitchen in Hebrew), and is professionally managed by chef Nir Perez. Nir, the initiator of this great project, volunteered to offer his entire catering facilities and time, and immediately managed to engage the entire village in help and support of this project, 100% voluntarily.

Since this project kicked off we have served an average of 750-800 meals per day with a cost of approximately $9-$10 per meal. The operating cost of this project is about $7,000-$8,000 per day, funded so far with the generous support of many individuals and organizations by financial donations or food product donations.

Our desire and hope is to maintain this project as long as the war in the Gaza Strip continues. We feel that especially now, as our soldiers have started their activities on the ground, we need to support them all the more and give them a home feeling even as they are far from home for many weeks.
