Following the devastating attack on Israel on October 7th, we have made contact with families in the South of Israel most deeply impacted, having lost loved ones on that day at the hands of Hamas. Some of the families are awaiting the return of their loved ones taken hostage to Gaza. All of them have lost their homes and businesses. While each of the families works towards rebuilding their lives, caring for their families and finding a new home, our aim is to provide relief in the form of financial assistance in direct and personal way, from one family to another.

This campaign is for the widow of Adi Baharav, Efrat Goren Shaked.

Captain (reserves) Adi Baharav, a resident of Netiv Ha'asara, was heroically killed while fiercely defending the Yeshuv with his friends on October 7th. A member of the Yishuv's emergency squad, he was 62 years old at the time of his death.

Adi and his widow, Efrat Goren Shaked, were together for 17 years when the terrorist attack happened on October 7th. That morning, when the attack began, Adi put on his uniform, left Efrat with a gun in the safe room of their home, and went out to help. He and a friend killed two terrorists and continued to other homes in the area, helping the residents. He was in contact with Efrat, reporting to her on what they were seeing, until his last message to her, which came at 8:04 that morning. He saw the homes of friends set on fire. When he spotted the dead body of a friend at the entrance to his home, a terrorist who was inside threw a grenade at Adi and killed him.

Efrat was a farmer like her father, growing organic vegetables in Netiv Ha'asara's greenhouse. Her independent business was destroyed as a result of the attack on October 7th. The greenhouse is now considered an army base and those 20 acres will not be yielding vegetables this year. Efrat's family has been in the business of supplying vegetables to the residents of the Gaza envelope, and in the coming year, they will not have an income as most of the residents cannot return to live in the area and are spread out across Israel. As a result, Efrat, a strong and resilient woman who is determined to build a new life for herself and her kids, has decided to become a tour guide, learning another profession that is close to the land and the history of Israel.

Adi and Efrat's house in Netiv Ha'asara is currently being used by the army. Tanks are going into Gaza through the Yeshuv, alongside the high wall separating the Yeshuv from Gaza. All residents of the Moshav have left as instructed by the army. Efrat and her sons chose to live in a Moshav in the center, near Netanya, close to the land, which they love so much, and affords space for their dogs to run freely.
