The events that occurred in Yad Mordechai and in our surrounding communities near Gaza on Saturday, October 7, 2023, are significant and traumatic events that will likely stay with us for the rest of our lives. Fortunately, with the assistance of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), aided by members of the kibbutz, they fought and eliminated dozens of terrorists who reached the borders of the kibbutz. Thanks to the bravery of our soldiers and kibbutz members, a major disaster in Yad Mordechai was prevented. As time passes since the beginning of the “Iron Swords” war, we lift our heads and look forward to the day after. Although we are staying now at the city of Hadera under the guidance of the state and the army, returning to Yad Mordechai is not a matter of doubt for us. It is a clear statement that we desire to return home, rebuild the community from physical damages that occurred and are still happening during the conflict, and continue the momentum of activity and growth of the community and the kibbutz. For us, the development of the Western Negev is a Zionism of the 2024 model, and we aspire to play a significant role and be leaders in the region’s revival. This belief and vision are what give us the strength and hope for the future.
