Asylum seekers came to Israel fleeing atrocities in Eritrea, Sudan, and elsewhere, and suffered through horrors during their journey here. Now they live in Israel without basic rights, greatly dependent on organizations like ASSAF.
ASSAF organization was founded in 2007 in order to provide aid to asylum seekers, to promote their rights and well-being, and to fight against discriminatory policies.
We believe that asylum seekers and refugees deserve to live in dignity, with the prospect of a better future. We believe that as a society we should welcome and protect those who seek asylum, and treat them with empathy and respect.
At ASSAF we work daily to assist asylum seekers in need, with specific attention to the most vulnerable groups among them: survivors of torture, people with disabilities and with chronic illnesses, single-parent families, youths at risk, and women suffering from domestic violence. We manage a range of projects to support and empower them, and to increase their accessibility to services in Israel, all the while advocating for their cause in the public, legal and political spheres.
Many refugees live in Israel in hardship, with meager rights and little hope for a safe future for themselves and their families. Within this desperate reality we try to make some light; we work hard to make small miracles for refugees in Israel.
