For 25 years Jawad Siam has been leading the struggle of the people of Silwan against the Elad Foundation's settlement in his village. At the same time, Siam waged a legal battle to try to stop the Elad Foundation from taking over his family home.

Despite the battery of lawyers representing the wealthy foundation, which has a turnover of approximately one hundred million NIS and assets worth over 300 million NIS, the court has repeatedly ruled in favor of Siam. Each case lasted for several years at a huge cost to Siam.

Eventually, after over two decades of struggle, the settlers succeeded in driving a wedge through the family and acquired a section of the property. With the help of the State and the Custodian for Absentee Property, it is now taking over additional sections of the house. Thus, after spending hundreds of thousands of shekels on legal battles, Siam has lost his home and is left with debts. At this time the settlers are also demanding that he retroactively pay rent to the sum of 500,000 NIS.
