Miri Belish Morad, a wife and mother of three, a beautiful charming woman, was 41 when she died after 4.5 years of battling breast cancer. Diagnosis occurred three months after losing her father to breast cancer without knowing the disease is hereditary and that early diagnosis can save lives. Miri was known and loved by many in Tiberias and the news of her illness stirred many women to get checked, consequently raising awareness of the issue. Her distinctive personality was evident while she coped with the disease in an outstanding manner. Miri was strong and determined to fight for her life with grace and dignity, and those who came to support were, in return, empowered by her. May she be of blessed memory.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Israel as it is worldwide. Statistics show that about 5,000 women each year are diagnosed. Early diagnoses raise recovery rates to 92%.
