Dear Friends,
We are students and residents of the Nekudat- Chen Boarding School in Kibbutz Sa'ad in israel. This is a boarding school that is not a "school" but a "home". In the "world of bureaucracy" we are known as "Girls at Risk". We ourselves, if you ask us, do not think this to be so.
Here are some pictures to remember:
Every girl who resides at our boarding school has come from a uniquely different background, has dealt with different kinds of difficulties, possesses different kinds of qualities and has a slightly different story to tell. These stories may range from a struggle with economic or social problems to slightly more extreme cases.
Nekudat-Chen boarding school places emphasis on what we harbor within ourselves, our character, skills, dreams and aspirations, and, most of all, our belief in ourselves. And we have learned that whatever struggles we may be up against in life, and however dire the circumstances may be, we will not let them sink us, but we can and will overcome.
Many of our girls who did not dream of ever completing a full matriculation certificate or even enlisting in the IDF, today are already studying for their college degrees or are currently serving in important and responsible positions in the Israel Defense Forces. For all of us, the circumstances that brought us here became a springboard for our future development and not an impediment to our progress.
So... Why are we here?
If you were to ask this question of any girl or staff member at Nekudat-Chen, undoubtedly the most common answer would be 'Home' – as this is what it is.
The 'problem' with this house is that it now requires renovation. Not because we want a pool, gym and tennis courts, things of that nature. But because the bathrooms and showers in our quarters are already older than we us...
(In addition to the fact that they no longer meet the new standards of the Ministry of Education, which is to say, that toilets should be separate from the showers), they are simply no longer pleasant, and more than that, they are far from being anything close to the word "home".
So we decided that these things must be renovated.
We girls are always together: we sleep together, study together, talk, grow and develop together. And with great fun. But this renovation, it turns out, is not a cheap story at all.
Thus, we have raised resources from what we could reach around us, and have decided to embark on this campaign of crowdfunding for the amount we still lack-
about NIS 220,000. Yes, it is a big sum and it is not a simple task.
At first it seemed impossible, but slowly the idea crystallized, we received encouragement from our immediate environment and suddenly we realized - this is exactly the story of the Nekudat-Chen boarding school!
Never stop believing!
To believe in ourselves, in our staff, to believe in the importance and purpose of this place , to believe in the community, in man, in you.
To believe that this could happen, and next year we will have functional and pleasant showers and bathrooms.
As it should be in every home.
