I learned about Larger Than Life, following a personal experience, when this association assisted my niece, after she was diagnosed with cancer. Following her diagnosis, when all the grown ups were busy understanding the course of the expected treatments, my adolescent niece experienced – in addition to the intense treatments she was facing – personal and social struggles, which forced her to get used to restrictions due to her condition and cope with fears and endless thoughts resulting from the changing reality.
There, within the race to save her and the attempt to assist her in understanding the reasons for such restrictions and the conduct in the new reality, I was made aware of the activity of Larger Than Life, who knew to address her new needs, outside of the normal routine.
Among others, the association forms support groups, within the framework of which the children share their feelings and thoughts | organizes fun escapism activities for the children and their families | builds support groups for parents who are obliged to reorganize their homes. In fact, the association addresses every welfare aspect of the new routines of the families.
After realizing the evident significance of the various programs of the association for the children and their families, I felt that it is my mission to join the association, which currently celebrates 20 years of activity.
And so, after two years of random remote aid, I joined the Tough Mudders for Larger Than Life team, a group that will run to complete a challenging obstacle course and raise funds to build the 'Kindergarten of Dreams'. This is a sterile educational and rehabilitation center for children recovering from cancer, constructed on the basis of the technology employed by hospital isolation units.
There is currently one such facility in Ramat Gan and the construction of the 2nd one in Be’er Sheva is about to complete.
