Hello everyone, my name is Daniel Cohen; I am a 20-year-old saxophonist and wind player, composer, and teacher from Israel. I’m moments away from fulfilling my dream, and turn to you to help me fulfil it.
I'm excited to tell you that I was accepted to study at The Juilliard School, New York! Yes Juilliard from the movies! One of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the world. I was selected out of thousands of candidates from all over the world who applied.
For as long as I can remember, there were two things I was very sure of, my inner urge to play music and my love of the saxophone. My father was an amateur musician who played many instruments; unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to learn from my father, as he passed away when I was 4 years old.
I graduated with honours in 2019 from the Thelma Yellin School of the Arts, as well as, the Israeli Conservatory "Shtriker" Tel Aviv. Over the years, I dreamt that one day I would be able to study at Juilliard. From the age of 13 and to this day, I have dedicated all my time and energy in training, participating in workshops and competitions in Israel and around the world with well-known musicians, and I have even won several competitions. I have performed, street busking and teaching music since the age of 15.
Despite the corona crisis, I did not want to give up my dream of studying at Juilliard. During the year, I started the demanding screening process that lasted several months and after a lot of hard work and preparation, I received the official letter, I got accepted!
Admission to Juilliard was the most exciting moment of my life, my dream is about to come true, but upon receiving the tuition letter, it became clear to me and my family that even after receiving a scholarship, tuition and living costs are higher than we can afford without help.
My goal in life is to be a jazz musician and a professional educator. I would like to play and teach music around the world, pass on the passion and inspiration to future generations. I have been given the opportunity and I do not want to lose it.
