Donation to Kibbutz Kerem Shalom:
(for tax-deductable bank transfers, read the 'Donation' paragraph)
We always believed that the wall that surrounds our kibbutz, which is close to the border, is impenetrable and protects us, but last Saturday we learned otherwise. Dozens of terrorists surrounded the kibbutz, and many of them even managed to enter it.
Thanks to the unimaginable heroism of the eight members of our standby squad, who went out to fight and left their wives and children at home alone in the shelter, the lives of almost all the residents of the kibbutz were saved. For hours, they managed to prevent the terrorists from turning Kerem Shalom into the scene of a mass massacre and preventing the occupation of the kibbutz.
We paid a heavy price. The terrorists entered several houses and shot into others, and most of the houses in Kerem Shalom were damaged. A fight took place in one of the houses. Terrorists wearing IDF uniforms broke into the house, shouted in Hebrew, and tried to open the door where the eight members of the Schindler family were sitting with their small children. They went around the whole house, shot in all directions, and finally placed a bomb in the entrance of the shelter. The explosion seriously injured Amichai, the father of the family. In the battle that took place in the house where members of the emergency squad tried to rescue the family, Amichai Witsen and Yedidya Raziel were killed. Yair Wisner was also wounded in the same battle.
The results of the battles were difficult. We lost dear and beloved friends who sacrificed their lives to save all of us and the kibbutz.
Our heart is burning with pain, but our spirit is strong, and we are here to stay. We will return home.
