Join us and contribute to Israel Cycling Center’s COVID-19 Program
The Israel Cycling Center has been running a program for at-risk youth at 5 youth villages for the last 18 months. Unfortunately, many activities for these youth have been suspended due to Covid-19. However, keeping these youth engaged, empowered and in a routine is essential for their well being.
The Israel Cycling Center has taken up this challenge and is thinking creatively. Despite the fact that participants in our programs are unable to ride outdoors, we have designed structured indoor activities utilizing smart trainers that will allow them to keep cycling!
Implementing these activities will not be possible without your help.
Purpose: to purchase at least 40 stationary smart trainers, additional equipment and run higher intensity programs at 5 youth villages. (Our expected income has been reduced due to changes in the ability of the youth villages to pay for our services at the current time.)
Looking to engage the youth villages students in the process, we initiated a special “event” in which 40 youth who participate in the Israel’s Cycling Center’s programs tried to accumulate together a total of 1800 km, in order to raise awareness to the campaign and inspire others. In the event, which took place on Friday, April 17 From 5 AM to 5 PM Israel time, the young riders rode either on trainers, near their homes or around their youth village (as per government regulations). For each km they rode, a generous contribution of $10 is made by two Israeli companies.
We are very proud to tell that by the end of the day, with high spirits and sore legs, a lot of them testified that they went far beyond their expectations. Despite these challenging conditions, most of them recorded the longest ride they ever did. The numbers were there to prove it:
By the official finish time, 40 students have accumulated an unbelievable distance: 3,063 kms.
An average of 76 km per rider. It is an amazing feat!
You can still join their effort! We are running this crowdfunding campaign where every contribution will be acknowledged in a number of creative ways from thank you notes, to coaching sessions, cycling gear and art work.
Our goal: to raise at least $100,000 from this event that will allow us to maintain and even expand our current activities at 5 youth villages and make it possible for 150 at risk youth to maintain and improve their fitness during these difficult times.
The Israel Cycling Center (ICC) was founded on the belief that cycling is a unique tool for engaging youth in a significant educational process and is a powerful platform for teaching life skills.
Please note: in order for contributions to be recognized as tax-deductible we are operating the campaign in cooperation with the Ben Shemen Youth Village.
