Too many Holocaust survivors live in horrifying conditions, in humiliation, in homes so awful it is hard to fathom.
Jerusalem’s welfare department turned to us when they discovered the chilling living conditions of this Holocaust survivor. We visited the home, took stock of the situation and the urgency of his need. Without hesitation, we put other projects on hold in order to repair his home swiftly and professionally.
When our repair team arrived they froze in the entrance, eyes tearing. The realization that a human being could live this way in Israel – a man who survived the concentration camps – it broke them.
Tenufa Bakehila is at this moment repairing the apartment, and asking you to join us in funding the project.
To repair the home we will:
1. Replace the rotted kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, and sink.
2. Install an accessible shower to replace his broken one.
3. Install a new hot water heater.
4. Remove the crumbling windows and install new ones to keep out the winter cold.
5. Thoroughly clean the entire apartment.
6. Repair, spackle, and paint the walls.
7. Install a new floor.
Join us today to restore the fading dignity of Israel’s remaining Holocaust survivors.
