Dr. Hava Sroka, an expert neurologist, volunteered with Physicians for Human Rights since 2012, both through our West Bank mobile clinic, and especially through the Open Clinic for status-less individuals.
She contributed greatly to our patients - through her time, her knowledge, and her extensive kindness.
Hava promoted our worldview through her work with us, caring for the person, and not just the patient. We will never forget her appointment summaries, always written in clear, round handwriting, relating to the full circumstances of her patients' lives, touching also on their emotional needs. Her notes helped us not only provide medical follow up and medication, but also to assist her patients more broadly. She got to know her patients deeply, who would come back to see her, viewing her as a grandmotherly figure.
Hava, who survived the Holocaust as a child, rarely spoke of her experiences, but her humanistic worldview was established at an early age. She was a human rights activist, promoting the right to health to her very last day.
She will be greatly missed.
