Families in southern Israel today must learn to cope with old and new threats. Rockets, as well as incendiary devices continue to be launched from Gaza, while cases of Covid-19 skyrocket throughout the country. With normal life, therefore, even more restricted, we adapted our program to best fit this situation, to reach these families, and especially the children, quickly, directly, and effectively. Over more than a decade, Connections & Links has worked with children and educational staff in person, typically in groups. Now, we must reach children along with their parents in their homes. We are proud, therefore, of the success of the Pilot version of the Winning Couple YouTube video series featuring music and dance to complement our flagship project, Treasures of the Winning Couple. The series is designed to encourage parents, together with their children, to participate in and acquire trauma-relieving and coping tools.
In all, eight films are planned to accompany this program, with half already produced and provided to teachers and parents. This is intended to facilitate their use of the tools together with the children, thereby building their resilience and coping skills. In addition to the videos, therapists and teachers are leading zoom sessions for the children and their families. They must contend daily, even hourly, with an unstable, unprecedented combination of physical and emotional insecurity posed by mortar, rocket and incendiary balloon launches, and a relentless, deadly viral pandemic.
