Last month, my family and I, went to the Greek island of Lesbos, with IsraAID, to learn about the refugee situation there. One of the most inspiring programs we visited there was the School of Peace!

Today in Lesbos, there are about 10,000 refugees and 4,000 of these are children. Most cannot attend regular Greek schools, and there are very few other options available to them!

The School of Peace is the only school on the island that teaches children in their mother-tongue language - in Arabic, Congolese French, Farsi, and Kurdish. They are also taught by refugee teachers from their own communities. 

Nearly 200 students are bused in daily from the island’s refugee camps to learn English, Math, Science, Art and more!

Please donate to the School of Peace today, in honor of my Bat Mitzvah, to give hundreds of refugee children a sweet start to the new year!

The School of Peace is run in partnership between IsraAID, the Israeli Hashomer Hatzair Youth Movement, and the Ajial Movement of Arab educators.

Here are some of the urgent needs:

• $180: a school backpack, pencil and notebook for 20 students.
• $500: teacher training supplies for one month.
• $1,000: new textbooks for one class.
• $1,800: construction of one new classroom.
• $3,600: one month of meals for the entire school.
• $5,000: school community events for an entire school year.
• $10,000: rent, electricity and water for the school for six months.
• $25,000: salaries for ten refugee teachers for six months.
