The Avshalom Battalion was established after October 7th at the initiative of Major General (res.) Yossi Bachar and Avshalom Habib, with the aim of providing security to residents of the Gaza border communities and restoring residents' trust back in the IDF.
The battalion carries out security missions in Kibbitzim and Yeshuvim adjacent to the fence and regional security missions such as securing border crossings, in the Northern Brigade sector under the Gaza Division. The battalion also operates a "Meshek - Neshek" (Agricultural farm + weapon) project consisting of young male and female soldiers who, in addition to the security mission, take part in farm work on the kibbutzim to restore them to full activity.
In light of the important missions that are being extended and the needs of the soldiers in the battalion, we are launching a fundraising campaign aimed at providing a response for advanced life-saving equipment that matches the growing number of soldiers in the battalion and maintaining maximum operational readiness for the entire time.
The battalion advocates equality and cooperation, and is a 'mirror' for Israeli society - men, women, religious, secular, Jews, Muslims, Druze and Christians serve in it.
The unit is made up of soldiers and men in the reserves, fighters who are attached/ mobilized from various units, and also accepts exempt soldiers/ formers into it. From the moment the battalion was established until today, over 2,000 soldiers have been recruited for various periods of service, participating in first-rate ethical activities out of a sense of Zionist ideological mission.
