For my Bar Mitzvah project, I am raising funds for Leket Israel. Leket Israel provides food for tens of thousands throughout Israel who face food insecurity, including families, at-risk-youth, Holocaust survivors and other elderly, immigrants and other vulnerable populations.
While we lived in Israel, it became an annual tradition to pick food for those in need through Leket. Some of our best memories included singing Passover songs with Israeli soldiers while picking turnips, posing for pictures with kohlrabi balanced on our heads, and proudly wearing our bright orange Leket tee-shirts for group photos with our friends. Leket holds a special place in our hearts, because it fulfills our responsibility to take care of one another. It welcomes all those who are hungry, regardless of race, religion, or circumstance, to join at the table in dignity. For more information about Leket Israel, please visit their website at https://www.leket.org/en/.
Leket Israel, Israel's National Food Bank and premier food rescue organization, collects and rescues 40 million pounds of healthy, surplus food annually that would have gone to waste, and distributes it to those in need. Leket does this by working with hotels, corporate kitchens, army bases, farmers, and others to collect hot meals and produce that aren't going to be eaten and delivers them to its 200 nonprofit partners throughout Israel. Through these initiatives, Leket Israel helps to feed over 175,000 people per week.
The current pandemic and health crisis has only magnified the importance of feeding the hungry. We hope you will join us in sharing the joy of my Bar Mitzvah with those who are in need by making a donation to this beloved organization.
Thank you for joining and supporting me in this effort!
