Bar Galim – The Home of Our Community
Bar Galim is not “just another bar.” It’s a nonprofit community cooperative that grew out of the Bat Galim neighborhood - a place that brings together locals, young and old, long-time residents and newcomers, artists, surfers, dreamers, and community members of all kinds.
It’s a cultural–social space that hosts community evenings, concerts, deep conversations, parties, art projects, and workshops - and, above all, real human encounters that connect us to one another.

How Did the Bar Begin?
In 2013, a group of residents came together and said: We deserve a vibrant, colorful, and lively Bat Galim. We wanted to create a place that gives a stage to local initiatives, connects culture and community, and allows us all to create together.
That’s how the cooperative “Achvat Galim” (“Brotherhood of the Waves") was founded - managing Bar Galim based on the belief that a nonprofit café-bar can be a powerful center for culture and community.
What’s Happened Since Then?
Since the bar’s founding, hundreds of events have left their mark:
-
Performances by local musicians alongside artists from across Israel.
-
Poetry nights, theater, lectures, and discussions, as well as memorial and commemorative events.
-
Activism events and showcases of social struggles and organizations.
-
Community celebrations and open neighborhood parties.
-
Strengthening community ties during difficult times - during COVID and the “Iron Swords” war.
-
A communal fridge for neighborhood residents.
-
A space people describe as “the living room of Bat Galim” - a place where you can simply be together.
More than anything, the bar has created a sense of belonging. It makes people feel that in Bat Galim, you don’t just reside - you truly live.

Why Is It So Important for the Bar to Continue?
Today, the bar is at a crossroads: the building it operates in is slated for demolition.
We’ve found a new home - a space in the heart of the neighborhood - but the move requires significant investment. Without your support, the bar may disappear, along with the community home that we’ve all built with our own hands.
Bar Galim is much more than a place to hang out — it’s the beating heart of community culture, a model of cooperation, and a source of pride for Bat Galim residents.
Ensuring its continuity means preserving what we’ve already built and expanding it - to create together the neighborhood we want to keep living in.
How Can You Help?
We’re turning to you - community members, Bat Galim residents, and everyone who believes in the power of community culture - to support us. Every donation, large or small, is another brick in building our shared home.
This is the moment for all of us to show that Bar Galim belongs to everyone - and that together, we can move it to a new home and continue dreaming, creating, and celebrating side by side.

What Happens with My Money?
Our goal is to raise 200,000 ILS, which includes both the moving costs and part of the investment needed to adapt the new space to the needs of the bar and the community.
This sum also includes a small reserve that will help us handle unexpected expenses in the first months of operating the new bar.
If, for any reason, the move cannot take place - all donated funds will be invested back into the community and cooperative, just as the bar’s current revenues are used today for the benefit of the neighborhood and its residents. The campaign is not conditional on reaching the full fundraising goal.
Once your donation is made, you’ll receive an automatic confirmation email. Didn’t get one? Contact us here!
