About Leket Israel

Leket Israel, Israel’s National Food Bank, rescues 40 million pounds of surplus, high-quality food annually - from hundreds of farms, hotels, corporate caterers and IDF army bases - that otherwise would go to waste and end up in landfills, causing increased greenhouse gas emissions which harm the environment. Leket provides the rescued food to 300 non-profits feeding 246,000 Israelis of all backgrounds each week, including the elderly and Holocaust survivors, teens at risk, single parents families, the newly unemployed, and more. The pandemic has dramatically increased demand for food assistance, with many families requesting food assistance for the first time. 

Leket makes efficient use of Israel's food resources, while reducing the quantity of food set to rot in garbage dumps. The organization is certified "Greenhouse Energy Efficient" and is carbon footprint smart.
