The project's goal is to continue the education of the children deported with their families from Israel to South Sudan in the summer of 2012.

About the Campaign

Lea Miller-Forshtat and Rami Gudovitch are leading this educational project in South Sudan, in cooperation with BECOME. The project's goal is to continue the education of the children who were deported with their families from Israel to South Sudan in the summer of 2012. Together with the children's parents we decided in a meeting held in Juba in August 2012 to send the children to boarding schools in Uganda. The decision was reached after an in-depth discussion of the various pros and cons - the distance from home and the high price, as well as ideological considerations of supporting the young education system in South Sudan were some of the considerations alongside with considerations regarding the quality of education as well as the nutrition, health and wellness of the children.

Rami Gudovitch and representatives of the parents went to Kampala and visited several boarding schools. At the parents' decision, Trinity Primary School has been chosen as the school which the children will attend.

Today we have 115 children, who until last year studied alongside our children in the Israeli education  system, studying in Trinity school, thanks to the generousity of   Israeli donors, many of whom have chosen to sponsor a child.

Within the forthcoming weeks, we intend to start a parallel e-learning project in Juba, to enable children for whom we do not yet have sufficient funds to send to school, to improve their control of the English language, in an organized manner, twice a week, and assure they get a hot meal with each lesson.

We are working on a plan to build a school in South Sudan, in the Juba vicinity, which will provide educational, occupational, health and nutritional solutions to the deportee community as well as to the greater South Sudanese community. We intend to build a complex containing kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational training center, community center, community kitchen and infirmary.
