Over the past three years, Standing Together has been at the forefront of the fight against forever war, against the occupation and for real peace. Now, our country is approaching its first election since October 7th and the war on Gaza.
Our society is entering these elections in a state of crisis: After years of right wing incitement, peace has become almost unspeakable in mainstream political discourse. At the same time, trust in our government is low, and the violence, racism and extremism that for years has oppressed Palestinians in the West Bank is making its way into cities across the country through police brutality and suppression of political speech. What is needed more than ever is greater political participation from Palestinian and Jewish citizens, in order to change the country's direction and begin building a reality based on equality, dignity, and social justice for everyone who calls this land home. But because of institutional racism and suppression, Palestinian voter turnout is at a historic low, with only 40 percent of women and 25 percent of young people voting.
We, Jewish and Palestinian citizens, know that it is on us to chart a different path forward. We know that only a joint Jewish-Palestinian struggle and partnership on the ground can deliver the future we deserve – of peace, equality, and social and environmental justice for all. As the political home for thousands of people fighting for justice and peace across the country, the role of our movement is more important than ever.
That’s why in the months leading up to the elections, we’re doubling down on community organizing across the country and launching a massive get out the vote campaign to combat voter suppression and build deep-seated Jewish-Palestinian partnership. We are also mobilizing our 14 student chapters and 12 local chapters, led by our nationally elected leadership, to push for grassroots change and are growing public support for an end to the occupation and for Israeli-Palestinian peace.
The system can feel rigged against us, ordinary people on this land, but we know that it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why we’re continuing to organize our society to demand another way. For our international community, the most powerful way to support progressive change and Jewish-Palestinian partnership is by supporting us, Standing Together, the largest grassroots movement of Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel.
