American University faculty and staff have established this fund-raising campaign in memory of Aviv Atzili, the cousin of our dear colleague, Dr. Boaz Atzili. Aviv was one of the victims of the October 7 Hamas attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz. Aviv was an artist and mechanic who kept the farm machinery at Kibbutz Nir Oz in tip-top shape and used old equipment as a canvas for his paintings, the AP reports. By all accounts, he was a people person, beloved by the community, and a wonderful husband and father to his three children. His wife, Liat Beinin, who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on that fateful Saturday, was released from captivity in Gaza on November 29. Liat and Aviv, both 49, met as youth counselors. After completing their military service, they traveled for three years, visiting India and Australia, where they were married. Upon returning to Israel, they settled in Kibbutz Nir Oz, where they raised their children. Please consider helping us raise funds for the survivors of Kibbutz Nir Oz. The donations are intended for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Kibbutz Nir Oz and its community. They are needed for building, restoring as well as expanding the community of Nir Oz.

The contributions will be dedicated, among other things, to the building of Public Buildings, the establishment of a Memorial site, and the creation of a supportive and protected neighborhood for the elderly who will return to the Kibbutz.

The money will be used to fund the establishment of excellent and protected educational buildings for the children and youth of Nir Oz, as well as the creation of a Leisure and Sports center; the development of a center for individual and community economic development, that will strengthen the human fabric of the Kibbutz; optimal planning of the Kibbutz, including striving for energy independence, enhancing the safety and security of the community in buildings and on the roads; the establishment of a well-equipped and modern Situation Room.
