Dear Friends, Family, Colleagues:
Come October 23rd of this year I will be "clicking in" with beloved fellow riders for my 18th Wheels of Love bike ride! I first started in 2004 and have come every year with the exceptions of 2020 and 2021 when the pandemic precluded travel.
Not only have I been at the Wheels of Love since 2004, but in 2011 I went on the Board of our non-profit, Friends of ALYN Hospital, Manhattan, NY.
I do this to raise money to benefit the children at ALYN Hospital. When you make your tax-deductible charitable contribution you ALYN provide high-level rehabilitative treatment and state-of-the-art services for children with a wide range of physical disabilities. ALYN Hospital is the only facility of its kind in Israel and is one of the world’s leading specialists in the active and intensive rehabilitation of children, regardless of religion or ethnic background.
I am still an active (partially active??) attorney specializing in not only injury claims, but mostly SSI/Social Security disability hearings and appeals to help individuals get benefits when and if they have become so impaired that they can not work.
As such, what ALYN does aligns with my world view, helping this jewel on the mountain, as I say, in Jerusalem, optimize the lives of children and adolescents with chronic health challenges. I am especially impressed that the children come from a variety of backgrounds. At ALYN you are as likely to see a taqiyah as you are a kippah; a hijab as often as you might see woman with a casual cap. ALYN serves the greater community regardless of religious, ethnic or national origins, and does it with an unrivaled expertise.
My ASK
Will you please consider a generous contribution to help me help ALYN? $1,800, $180, $18? Whatever you can do. I have had contributions as large as $18,000, and down to $18 (or a multiple) and even smaller. It all helps, no matter the level.
Why "18"? 18 is the numeric value of the word "chai" (a guttural 'hi') which means life. ALYN gives life, a better life, and is an example, a beacon, of that for which we should strive.
