Akiva Goes South to Support Akim Charity. Join Him Even If You Can't Come Too

In celebration of his bar mitzvah, Akiva is joining Akim Jerusalem's "Miles for Smiles" 3-day trek in the Judean desert this March to promote the welfare of persons with intellectual disabilities and developmental impairments.

About the Campaign

Hi Everyone. As you know, I am celebrating my bar mitzvah this year. So is Akim Jerusalem's "Miles for Smiles" trek so I decided to join them. Founded 13 years ago by my cousin David Schottenfels, "Miles for Smiles" raises money for a great cause -- to help intellectually challenged residents of Jerusalem of all ages, races and levels of functioning.

As Akim Jerusalem explains on its web site:

In addition, AKIM-Jerusalem’s Family Support Center provides services to around 200 families of persons with disabilities who still live at home. These services include: an Extended School-day program, a Home Care program, Supported Environment project and a Training apartment program."

My mom will be joining me on the three-day trek through the southern Judean desert, March 10-12, which starts in Arad and ends above the Dead Sea. The journey is almost 80 kilometers, so my mom and I are already training. It would be great to know that you are behind us all the way!

This year I will also be volunteering with AKIM-Modiin.
