About the Campaign

Israel is once again under attack, and at war with Hamas. As hundreds of rockets fall on Israel, tens of thousands of Israel Defence Force soldiers are fighting to stop the attacks and defend Israel from terror. Now you can help them.

 

 

Or Lachayal ("Light to the Soldiers"), is an Israeli non-profit that is committed to helping Israeli soldiers get through these difficult times. We are going from unit to unit handing out CARE packages of fresh socks, shirts, and underwear, and hosting BBQs for combat units out on the field. We're also strengthening our religious soldiers by handing out Tefillin and prayer books.

Who is Or LaChayal?

We're an Israeli non-profit organization, founded in 2000 by Rabbi Menachem Ofen in 2000, after he miraculously survived a Hamas terror attack. Rabbi Ofen was on his way to deliver mishlochei manot to Israeli soldiers for the Purim holiday when Hamas terrorists shot him and his brother. While Rabbi Ofen was recuperating from his injuries he decided to devote the rest of his life to bringing joy and support to IDF soldiers who are dedicating their lives to the defense of Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael, and connecting these soldiers to their Jewish heritage.

On a practical level, Or Lachayal  contributes to IDF soldiers' physical and spiritual welfare through barbeques, educational programs, and spiritual support. All of Or Lachayal’s activities are coordinated with and approved by the official IDF and state authorities in charge of the soldiers’ welfare, including the Human Resources Department, the Education Corps, and the Ministry of Defence, and done in partnership with the FIDF, the Friends of the IDF in the United States.

Or Lachayal partners in the US with American Support for Israel, a US 501c3 nonprofit that supports nonprofit organizations in Israel.
